Enso Artspace is pleased to open the autumn exhibition schedule with “For What Comes After”, paintings and drawings by Kelly Packer. In this series Packer investigates the remnants of former mining towns of the West. Working from photographs taken during visits to these towns as well as historical photographs, she brings the present and past together in images that distill the nature of these quick-to-thrive, quick-to-perish abandoned places. The ominous presence of the mountains, shreds of wallpaper, rust and splintered wood, elements particular to ghost towns, are perceptively evoked in the vibrant color palette and strong compositional acuity for which she is known. Packer also presents richly colored oil stick drawings of the noxious plants that overcome these places as they are reclaimed by nature.
